Welcome To The Forest PC Game

Hi, this is an introduction to me Andreas and the game The Forest.

The Forest is a game for PC on STEAM.

About ME, Andreas. (My favorite subject).
As you can see and tell, I an very humble and modest. That goes without saying, but I thought I'd say it anyway.  About my name, you won't exactly find me on STEAM or xBox under that name, and the reason is that my inbox would fill up with lots of requests to play and be in a video with me.

I know this, I've been there, done that. My real name is AndyGold and I am a businessman and entrepreneur in my normal working life day to day. I don't mind people following me in my business interests on blogging and generating income online. Find me at http://www.Blogging-For-Profit.co.uk and many other sites.

The Forest is an 'IN DEVELOPMENT ALPHA BUILD' currently at 2015-01-17.

If you follow some of my other gaming blogs and websites, you will already know that I am an adult who plays games. I think that it's important to get out in the open first, because I am not afraid to tell anyone that at the age of 51 now in 2015, (as I write this), that I love to play computer games.

My current main platforms are xBox 360 and PC games. I will list some below later, but for now let me tell you about the game The Forest...

The Forest.
The Forest is an adult horror survival game. You have to survive after a commercial air-plane you are traveling on with your young son, crashes onto an island inhabited with cannibals and mutants. You are stunned and dazed by the force of the impact, and awake briefly to see your son being picked up and carried away by a loin-cloth clad cannibal. You goal is obvious, survive, get your son back and escape the island.

You find some items that you can pick up nearby, mainly and axe, meds in the form of pain killers and some foods and snacks laying around. If you hang about, you may end up like the rest of the passengers who survived the crash; On the menu!

The Players and I.
The Forest is really a game for adults, (as are many games like GTA5, but we all know and accept that kids, (meaning under 18's (some as young as 6) play these games). Like in GTA5 online the other day, I wanted to play my own game, minding my own business, but another player wouldn't leave me alone and kept killing me constantly. When I got on the mic to this AH, I discovered he was only an 8y/o.

I try to say away from making online friends that are not adults. I have a lot of adult, over 50 friends that I play ETS2 MP and Farming-Simulator 2013 with. (Euro Truck Simulator 2 Multi-Player if you didn't already know). Our own kids have grown and flown the nest, but I still play a lot of games with them online,

The Development Versions of The Forest.
The Forest is Co-Op Multi-Player, for up to 4 players online. (Well, it is now). Mostly I have only played in single player mode because the game has been in its development stages over the last year or so. I started playing during early development release of the game, at about version "b" then I stayed with it through 'c' - d' where we currently are at as I write this in Jan 2015, with 62 hours played in the game to date.

Now at version 0.12 there has been a lot of additions and improvements, some that I have not liked. I really enjoyed the original concept of crash landing on an island inhabited with cannibals. That seems logical and realistically could happen, even still in this day and age. (Who knows). But, then they, (the collective 'they' who build and design the game), totally lost the plot and started adding 'Mutants'. WTF?

That's when it got annoying for me, because they were really onto something there. Then they has to spoil it be going down the weird and stupid mutants path. We are not talking disfigured babies here, from some sort of genetic evolution, because they are eating other humans. That could have possibly been a reasonable suggestion, but the mutants are like human leg spiders with legs and tentacles for arms as well.

The Mutants.
Not only do the mutants look stupid, they are not frightening in the least. Almost comical and laughable. I've also been all-zombi-ed out by the hordes of zombie apocalyptic type games on the market over the last few years; But, even some of the great graphics in modern zombie games still manage to give you a shock / start if they pop up unexpectedly in front of you, whilst you are sneaking about in the dark. Not so with these silly looking mutants. It really spoiled the game for me. I play on anyway... ???

The Cannibal Types.
Cannibals, male and female, come in several forms, some are ape-like runners, yet others are like humans when they run. There are two basic types of cannibal I think, one type seems to be almost prehistoric and animal-like, the other type are more intelligent and have lots of building skills and a hierarchy within the tribe. They wear clothing and jewelry made from skinned animals and humans.

The less advanced cannibals are describes as being 'starving outcasts' from the main tribe. But, my argument there is, that in a tribe, usually every youngster is taught the ways of the world growing up and are or should be able to hunt and make things and survive. So I don't understand why the need for this separation. My suggestions in the feedback to the game developers always seemed to land on deaf ears. I asked about this separation of intelligence and suggested they be outcasts who form separate tribes that fight with each other,

Human like Cannibals.
Tooth necklace wearing cannibals carrying a pole with amputated human heads, hands and feet, arms and legs. (A portable effigy, if you like). Obviously these guys are some kind of leader I think, the rest are soldiers, but they will all attack you. Unlike where an officer or important commander would not really be involved in the actual hand to hand fighting, and let his soldiers do the dirty work, all cannibals fight. They ever fight with each other.
Effigies, Markers or Warnings?
The cannibals do fight, and most of my effigies can from parts of cannibals I found or watched be killed by other cannibals. You build effigies, "apparently", to frighten away other cannibals, or to mark your area.

Its never been quite clear what effigies do, and they never seen to have any effect in the game that I have ever noticed.  Apart from, they might serve as a location marker.  I built a line of effigies to follow between my camp site and the crash site of the plane. Other than that they seem to be useless. Cannibals still come into your camp and they even place there own effigies inside your camp.

The Best Part of the Game.
The building and survival is the best thing in this game. Campsite building and construction, hunting and foraging, planning where to build and collecting resources etc is what I like to do. I've not even really concerned my self with looking for my abducted son or trying to find a way off the island!! I like it here!

It is probably the only reason why I still play it, because I don't agree with the way the AI cannibals, can attack and jump 30 feet from a tree etc, into your camp.  Nor I don't think we should have those stupid mutants in the game, (what the hack is all that about anyway), They claim a mad scientist has been doing experiments. That's just an old worn out story. Why not keep it real and realistic.

My Ideas and Answer. (Summary).
Simple, you land on an island inhabited with cannibals, who want to eat you. They survive on air crash victims and victims washed up on shore from ships lost at sea. (After-all, they cannot grow their own food fast enough can they)!

Why do all these things happen? Well, maybe the island is hidden and lost to civilization, in the center of the Bermuda Triangle, where the earths magnetic forces cause electronic and mechanical navigation systems to fail and the craft to be drawn in.

No-one really knows why these things happen still to this day in real life, so its seems a reasonable presumption to me to have this in the game.

Enjoy the game!
Andreas.
